Pelayo has implemented a new infrastructure and software architecture to carry out more efficient development and reduce the deployment time of its technology tools and costs. It is the first productive OpenShift platform offered as a managed service on Azure Red Hat OpenShift in Spain.
The project consisted of designing a new framework and building a new software infrastructure for the development of applications in order to provide faster solutions to its customers, who increasingly require greater immediacy, both in terms of contracting and managing policies. It is part of Pelayo's digital transformation plan, aimed at innovating and offering, from a cutting-edge technological platform, new products and services to its members.
The Digital Acceleration and Infrastructure Management professionals of Sopra Steria, European leader in consulting, digital services and software development, as well as its technical teams in Banking and Insurance, have participated in the development of the project. The company acted as technology consultant in the modernisation strategy, choosing the best solutions and practices, and designing the new architecture, based on the paradigm of Microservices and Event Driven Architectures.
Pelayo focuses on performance and usability the new infrastructure is aimed at improving the usability and performance of the applications and products that the insurer makes available to its customers (such as the digital signature, which allows customers to digitally sign their policies). It also facilitates better support for peak workloads, allowing auto-scaling and continuous improvement of the different microservices running on the platform.
Azure Red Hat OpenShift on Microsoft Azure has been chosen because it enables not only rapid application development, but also easy deployment and scaling and long-term lifecycle maintenance of hardware and applications.
In addition, Microsoft and Red Hat jointly manage and support this service, making it possible to maintain compliance and focus only on application development, while Microsoft and Red Hat update, monitor and patch the master, infrastructure and application nodes, the company said.
"We thank Microsoft, Red Hat and Sopra Steria for their enormous commitment to this pioneering adoption in Spain of the latest version of Azure Red Hat Openshift, achieving the success we were aiming for with this project: to have a cutting-edge, 100% cloud development platform at Pelayo that would guide our digital transformation and drive us to undertake the most innovative applications in the sector," said Pelayo's CIO, David Fiñana.
